More important information about this walk

How many people will be on my retreat?

Each trip requires a minimum of 12 guests and has a maximum of 20 guests.

What level of fitness do I need?

We expect people to have a reasonable level of fitness. In the lead-up to the walk we recommend regular physical exercise. This may include walking daily, swimming, cycling, gym work, strength or Pilates or a combination of these.

The three-day hike will average approximately 35km. There are options to walk less.

A range of terrain will be experienced, including beach walking and rocky trails. We have provided ample opportunity to stretch out and rest along the way. If you exercise regularly, have a moderate to good walking fitness level and feel capable of walking up to 4 hours a day, this walk is for you.

Note: Each day of walking is graded on the website.

What do I carry on the hike?

You only carry a lightweight day pack that contains what you need for the day (i.e., camera, rain jacket, snacks (which will be provided), personal medication and water).

Your luggage is transported directly to your accommodation.

What hiking shoes should I have?

We highly recommend lace-up boots or walking/hiking shoes. These shoes will minimise the risk of blisters. We also recommend long socks for the beach walking.

Sandshoes, elastic-sided boots, street shoes and similar are not acceptable.

Do I need any travel insurance?

It is advisable to have travel insurance. If you find yourself in the unfortunate position of having to cancel the walk due to injuring an ankle a few days before departure, or any other unexpected personal circumstance, your insurance will be able to cover you for your non-refundable costs.

We will always do our best to accommodate, but our booking conditions concerning cancellations and refunds will mean on most cases we are unable to offer full refunds. See our booking conditions concerning cancellations and refunds. This way you are covered.

How many guides are there?

Every trip has two experienced guides. This allows plenty of opportunities to rest, take photos and walk at your own pace.

What food do I eat?

All meals are provided, two breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners prepared by local caterers and our guides. The evening meals are served with a selection of local wines. We ask to know in advance of any dietary requirements.

*Please note in the best interests of our guests and staff we promote the responsible service of alcohol.

What time does the trip commence and conclude?

We ask that you are ready for the briefing at Settlement Point Ferry carpark at the morning of your hike. The times will vary depending on tides and you will be informed based on your tour.

This allows time for introductions and a gear check before departing for our hike across the Hastings River to the North Shore.

For those staying in Port Macquarie the night before, you will need to organise a taxi or uber to settlement Point. Or you can drive your car to the Settlement Point Ferry carpark and leave it parked overnight.

At the end of the walk, we can drop you back to Settlement Point to collect your vehicle, or we can also drop off at the Town Green in the centre of Port Macquarie CBD.

Age requirements

The minimum age for guests walking with us is 18 years old.  All minors to be accompanied. There are no upper age restrictions, however, for guests walking with us who are 69 or above, we do require a GP to sign off on a letter we provide.

How do I get to Port Macquarie?
